Travel Tips for Pet Owners
Here are some essential tips for traveling with your dogs:
- Research pet policies of airlines and accommodations.
- Keep your dogs’ health records handy.
- Make sure you have an airline approved crate and it is the correct size according to the airline’s policy.
- We added a label to each crate (see below) with their names and the following information:
- Their microchip number.
- Our names and our phone numbers.
- A picture of them and their travel mates.
- A little description of them and the trip.
- Bring familiar items to comfort them.
- Bring poop bags, clean up supplies, and a grooming tool for destination location as you pick up your pet.
NOTE: We also have air tags on each of our dogs, just in case they were missing we could track their GPS location.
Pets and International Travel
- Start planning your trip and requirements early.

Also, make extra copies of all travel documentation to keep in a second location; such as, your checked luggage.
- Follow all requirements completely.
- When leaving the USA to a foreign country it is considered exporting your pet, while returning to the USA is importing. It will help to remember this when filling out the travel documents.
